Info for Junior Students and Parents
Junior year represents the heart of the post-secondary planning process. This is the time for students to get serious in exploring future options and opportunities. Clarify what you want from a post-secondary experience, whether it be a four year college, community college, technical/specialty school, military involvement or employment elsewhere.
Counselors conduct two classroom guidance sessions (fall/spring semester) with Juniors to discuss important steps in the post-secondary process and review resources available to aid students in their college/career search. Juniors should also schedule an appointment with their counselor at the conclusion of 1st semester to review their academic record and discuss their post-secondary plans in detail.
Refer to the Junior Year Timeline (bottom of screen) for a monthly to-do list regarding college/career preparation for this year.
Additional college/career preparation resources available on the High School Planning Timeline .
College Admissions Testing
The PSAT is a practice version of the SAT designed to provide students with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the format of college admissions tests. All Juniors will take the PSAT in October, and are automatically registered for this test administration. No fee is required. Results will be available in December/January.
All Juniors should plan to take the SAT and/or ACT at least once during Junior year. Most students will plan to take both during spring semester (January - June). Fee waivers are available for students who qualify; speak with your counselor about eligibility.
When registering, you will need the CHHS CEEB code. Our code is 340645.
ACT
The ACT is administered at school to all Juniors in March for free. Score reports are mailed home in late April/early May. If you want to pay to take it another time, use this link: Register for the ACT
